Energy Efficiency and Weatherization Services

Overview

Under grants provided by the US Department of Energy, the State of Maryland Energy Administration and the City of Baltimore, the Hazard Reduction Team will perform a variety of energy efficiency and weatherization services designed to improve home function and the health of residents in the home.

Who is it For?

Services are provided free of charge to qualifying families living in low income neighborhoods. For property owners or families not meeting grant qualifications, the Coalition may be able to assist with application assistance for similar services. What’s Included:

Full scale Energy Audits including but not limited to:

  • Visual Inspection
  • A blower door test to determine structural air leakage
  • Thermographic & Infrared Imaging to determine structural energy loss
  • Duct testing for forced air HVAC systems where applicable
  • Carbon Monoxide and combustible gas leakage detection
  • HVAC system capacity and performance calculations

 

Weatherization Interventions

  • Insulation – blown and rolled
  • Weatherstripping
  • Foam insulation
  • Caulking to seal structural air leakages
  • Replacement or installation of gutters/downspouts
  • Replacement windows (Energy Star)
  • Cool Roofs

 

Energy Retrofit/Energy Efficiency Interventions

  • Installation of water heater insulation blankets
  • Insulation of exposed hot water feed pipes
  • Installation of CFL light bulbs
  • Mastic to seal leakages found in exposed forced air duct systems
  • Replacement of air filters for forced air HVAC systems
  • Installation of programmable thermostat
  • Furnace cleaning and repair
  • Furnace and hot water heater replacement
  • Dryer and bathroom venting
  • Installation of low flow showerheads
  • Plumbing repair
  • Installation of Energy Star appliances (where applicable)
  • Furnace and hot water heater replacement (where applicable)

 

Lead Hazard Control Services

Under grants provided by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the State of Maryland and the City of Baltimore, the Hazard Reduction Team will perform the following services:

  • Risk Assessment and Lead-Based Paint Inspection
  • Visual Inspection
  • XRF and lead dust inspection

 

Intervention Services

  • Paint stabilization
  • Window replacement (Energy Star) and other component replacement where applicable
  • Lead specific cleaning including HEPA vacuum and wet cleaning

 

Healthy Homes Intervention Services

Under grants provided by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and private foundations, the Hazard Reduction Team will perform the following services:

  • Environmental Assessment
  • Visual Inspection
  • Indoor Allergen Sampling

 

Basic Intervention

  • Installation of smoke alarms on each floor of house
  • Installation of carbon monoxide alarms
  • Installation of electric outlet covers and cabinet locks
  • Provision of first aid kit
  • Provision to residents of cleaning kit consisting of buckets, sponge mop, replacement mop head, sponges, gloves, cleaning solution

 

Facilitated Intervention

All of the features of basic intervention in addition to:

  • Integrated Pest Management
  • HEPA Vacuum

 

Intensive Intervention

All of the features of the facilitated intervention in addition to:

  • Mattress and pillow cover installation
  • Steam cleaning of carpets
  • Removal of carpets and floor treatments
  • Insuring proper venting to exterior of house for dryers and bathrooms
  • Replacement of forced-air furnace filters
  • Provision of Austin Air filtering system in asthma diagnosed child’s bedroom
  • Provision of air conditioner
  • Provision of dehumidifier
