Home Electrification & Affordability: Evidence from Case Studies in Baltimore
Drawing on real-world case studies from four Baltimore homes, a report from Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) shows that residential electrification along with weatherization, health, and safety repairs can holistically lower energy costs, improve health outcomes, and enhance indoor comfort.
GHHI’s report, Home Electrification & Affordability: Evidence from Case Studies in Baltimore, advances a new framework for analyzing electrification’s impact on household affordability, taking into account upfront costs, utility costs, health benefits, and home co-benefits. After electrifying their homes with GHHI’s Whole House approach, which addresses health, safety, structural, and energy inefficiency issues in a home, four clients, all of whom were retired homeowners, reported meaningful improvements to their financial stability.
