Green & Healthy Homes Initiative: CGI America 2012 Commitment Announcement Video

The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative™ (GHHI) gained significant national recognition at the Clinton Global Initiative America (CGI America) annual conference in Chicago in June of 2012 where it was featured as an innovative solution to address the nation’s housing crisis.

The GHHI ‘Commitment to Action’ was presented to the members of the CGI America Housing Recovery Working Group, charged with propelling cross-sector approaches to respond to the complex challenges surrounding distressed residential properties.

The GHHI Commitment to Action pledges to create 25,000 green and healthy homes and more than 1,500 green jobs over the next three years through the implementation of the GHHI platform in 25 cities nationwide, adding to the 17 communities in which it is already engaged.

GHHI is a high-quality, high-impact approach to housing rehabilitation that drives public and private sector collaboration, streamlines service delivery, integrates energy and healthy housing interventions and develops new community-based green and healthy homes contractors. The GHHI Commitment to Action builds on its initial 15 pilot cities that have successfully completed 2,750 GHHI units and enrolled 7,000 housing units. To achieve this scale-up, GHHI will provide sites with a comprehensive toolkit, integrated interventions, and a shared data platform and systems to braid multiple funding streams. GHHI will target unemployed and low-skilled incumbent workers for employment training that will enable them to perform the comprehensive GHHI intervention. GHHI has established an initial goal to have at least 20 percent of the contracting pool include women or women-owned businesses.

Green & Healthy Homes Initiative™ Selected as Finalist in 2012 Social Impact Business Plan Competition

The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative™ (GHHI) was named a finalist in the 2012 Social Impact Business Plan Competition, sponsored by the Social Impact Exchange. GHHI was recognized for its innovative approach to using housing as a platform to improve health, economic and social outcomes for low-income families and communities throughout the U.S.

GHHI was one of only three finalists in the “early stage” category, chosen from a field of 25 organizations that made it into the second round of the competition. The symposium is an invitation-only event for funders, philanthropists, philanthropic advisors, and social investors interested in learning about innovative methods to support high-impact nonprofit initiatives that are growing and expanding their models for greatest impact.

The GHHI scaling plan proposes to create 100,000 GHHI homes by 2015 contributing to more than $9 billion in long-term health savings for the federal taxpayer and help create sustainable systems and market change for how federal, philanthropic and private sector investments are made in low income housing for generations.

The Social Impact Exchange is a community of funders, advisors, wealth managers, intermediaries, nonprofits and researchers interested in funding and developing practices for scaling-up social solutions. The Exchange’s purpose is to establish a marketplace ecosystem that consistently enables effective social interventions to achieve scaled impact.
