Denver detects lead in tap water, urges residents to limit exposure

Drinking water in one out of eight Denver homes with lead plumbing may be contaminated with lead — a health hazard that causes brain and nerve damage, especially in children. The lead concentrations measured in samples from 60 homes exceeded the federal drinking water standard of 15 parts per billion by as much as 3.8 times.
