Donations to the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative support our work to prevent childhood lead poisoning and create green, healthy and safe homes across the nation. All donations will be acknowledged with a written or electronic receipt. Every dollar received makes a difference in the lives of families in need. See how your donation can help a family in need today:
Provides allergy-reducing mattress and pillow covers for an asthmatic child. These simple covers prevent life threatening asthma attacks caused by dust mites.
Outfits a home with carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms. Early detection can save lives and property.
Installs CFL light bulbs in 25 homes to help families reduce energy consumption and lower monthly energy bills. Low-income families in the US can spend up to 20 percent of their income on energy, compared with only 4 percent that is spent by the average household.
Tests a home for lead-based paint hazards. Ingesting lead-based paint dust is the leading cause for childhood lead poisoning.
Gives a new HEPA vacuum to five families with asthmatic children. Vacuuming frequently reduces the amount of allergens and dust mites that trigger deadly asthma attacks.
Funds representation for a low-income family in court when faced with lead hazards in their rental home and an unresponsive landlord. A Family Advocacy Attorney will represent the client in a Rent Escrow action for the lead safe repair of lead hazards in their rental home.
Replaces 10 old, leaded windows with lead-free ENERGY STAR windows. This will protect the family from lead poisoning and reduce their energy costs.
Provides an ENERGY STAR furnace for a family who has no heat. The family will no longer need to use unsafe heating methods like ovens and space heaters.
Delivers a full green and healthy homes intervention to a family, including a full health, safety and energy assessment and renovation, 10 lead-free ENERGY STAR windows, an ENERGY STAR replacement furnace and case management and education services to ensure the family can maintain the updates to the home.
The Relocation Fund provides temporary or permanent relocation assistance to low-income families living in unsafe and unhealthy homes.
